Kindergarten through eighth grade students participated in Makahiki. Kumu Micah's class hosted the entire event where our students learned about the Makahiki games. Great job KWON students!
Ka Waihona o ka Na'auao students are enjoying the Scholastic Book Fair this week. Muffins with Moms, Donuts with Dads, and Goodies with Grands was a hit! Students also created Science Projects for the fair that are displayed in the library. Great job Walker, Valkyrie and Kahekili!
Book Trailers of some of the available books were featured during classroom visits to the Fair. The students enjoyed all the Book Trailers which introduced them to books they might not have read otherwise. If you stop by the library, take a look at the Teacher Baskets. Families can add to Classroom Libraries by purchasing books recommended by teachers for their classrooms. Stop by at the Book Fair through this Friday, March 15! Students in grades K-5 continued their research projects last week in the library. Students are continuing to gather information to create ebooks on their chosen subject! Sixth grade students also stopped by for some silent, independent reading time.
Dr. Seuss' birthday was celebrated in style at KWON! This year, the featured book was The Lorax. Students learned about Koa reforestation in the big island and compared that with the author's message of The Lorax. Students were also able to watch the Lorax cartoon, read the book on an iPad app, and make Unless rocks so they remember to CARE! Staff and students joined together for Topsy Turvy (crazy hat day), Crazy Socks Day, Twin Day, and some Waltzing on the lawn all in honor of Dr. Seuss. All in all, we had a great time celebrating! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! |
