Each week, fifth and sixth graders visit the KWON library and view book trailers about award winning novels. This week, students viewed a Book Talk and discussion about the book Chasing Vermeer by the author of the book, Blue Baillett. Students also learned about Literary Genres, specifically the Realistic Fiction Genre. Chasing Vermeer's mysterious story discusses the true artist that brought the painting Girl with the Pearl Earring to life. Students have also viewed book trailers for the books Alcatraz versus the Evil Librarians, Cosmic, Captain Nobody, Flush and more. Next week, students will look back at recently reviewed books and place them into correct literary genres by learning about movie genres (science fiction, adventure, biography) which will be fun! If you would like to help your child's reading interests grow through Book Talks and Book Trailers, go to the Scholastic website for a fountain of book options!
